The main exhibition of the fashion biennale State of Fashion – Fashion as Encounters – has found its place in the Eusebius Church in Arnhem. Studio L A has designed a temporary ceiling in this church that effectively reduces the large space of the church and highlights each work in its own way.
In the exhibition Fashion as Encounters, curated by NOT____ENOUGH Collective, the meaning of fashion is redefined. For example, prevailing notions of gender, beauty and identity within the fashion system are challenged to make way for untold stories, unseen bodies and existing beauties that have been erased in the past.
The exhibition design by Studio L A literally shines light on these untold stories and unseen bodies through a suspended ceiling in the church, in which holes have been made to illuminate the work. The ceiling also creates a human dimension in the impressive large space of the church. Each hole in the ceiling is custom designed for the work hanging in it, or can be seen below on a designed ‘carrier’.
